Beijing Chaoyang Theater is one of the city’s most renowned performance venues, best known for its world-class Chinese acrobatic shows. Located in Beijing’s central business district near the East Third Ring Road, the theater enjoys convenient transportation access and a prime downtown location. With comfortable seating and modern facilities, it offers audiences an exceptional live entertainment experience.
Over the years, many top Chinese acrobatic troupes have performed at Chaoyang Theater, including the acclaimed Suining Acrobatic Troupe from Sichuan Province, which has staged performances here for nearly two decades.
One of the troupe’s signature productions, “Flying,” breaks traditional acrobatic boundaries and has captivated generations of spectators. Inspired by ancient Sichuan culture, the show draws creative elements from archaeological discoveries at the Sanxingdui and Jinsha sites, once the political, economic, and cultural centers of the ancient Shu Kingdom (12th–11th centuries BC).
The performance reflects the ancient worship of the sun and birds and expresses humanity’s timeless dream of flying freely like birds. A highlight of the show is the thrilling “Death Wheel” act—rarely seen in domestic performances—which delivers heart-stopping excitement and leaves audiences in awe.
At the climax of the performance, trained peacocks and macaws from Sichuan soar over the audience before gracefully returning to the acrobats on stage, creating an unforgettable and immersive visual spectacle.
Combining acrobatics with dance, stage art, literature, and advanced lighting effects, the show delivers powerful visual impact and artistic depth. It not only elevates the appeal of acrobatic performances but also vividly showcases the richness of traditional Chinese culture.
Chinese acrobatics is a highly demanding performing art with a history dating back over 2,000 years to the Qin Dynasty (221–207 BC). Since its founding in 1984, Beijing Chaoyang Theater has welcomed over 5 million international visitors, including diplomats and high-ranking overseas officials, who have praised its extraordinary performances.
The theater has played an important role in helping foreign visitors—such as embassy staff, multinational professionals, and tourists—gain deeper insight into Beijing and China. With a seating capacity of 1,300 people, the theater hosts two acrobatic shows daily, and its programs have won more than 30 domestic and international awards.
Branded internationally as “Acrobatic World,” Chaoyang Theater is widely recognized by global travel agencies, some of which reserve tickets up to two years in advance.
With first-class stage equipment, professional services, and a welcoming atmosphere, Beijing Chaoyang Theater warmly invites visitors from around the world to experience the magic of Chinese acrobatics.
